Why I Teach
I started practicing Yoga a little over 11 years ago. It was a practice created by the need to learn how
to breathe. I have anxiety and found Yoga to be a path to calming my mind as well as my body and easing my overall anxious state. It was after making this connection in my daily discipline that I began to think about taking a teacher training program. Initially my only thought was to be a better student, not a teacher. However, the more I grew in my own Yoga studies, the more I wanted to share the great benefits I was experiencing mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Education
I studied for several years under a teacher in Maui Hawaii and then I continued my studies in Taos, New Mexico with several teachers in order to experience all the various styles of Yoga. Ninety percent of my Yoga studies were Iyengar based, however in my studies I still lacked the connection between the Yogic movement and the breath. It was at this point that I began to study Vinyasa which focuses greatly on the connection of movement and breath. I studied under Stephanie Keach in Ashville, North Carolina for a year in order to be certified as a Vinyasa Flow Yoga Teacher.
Style I Teach
My teaching style is a combination of Iyengar Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga. I focus greatly on alignment and being grounded in the flow of the breath through the movement of my practice. I believe that all movement in the body begins with the breath and ends with the breath. For me, the marriage of these two styles is the ideal way to practice. I have been teaching for over eleven years.
